VMware recently released a technology preview for a new plug-in which will offer management of non-vSphere hypervisors. vCenter XVP Manager and Converter would provide management of non-VMware virtual machines, like for instance Hyper-V based VMs. Of course Microsoft already offers management of VMware based VMs through System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) today including their V2V feature in which you can convert a VMware VM to a Hyper-V VM. Clearly this new plug-in is an acknowledgement of the growing number of Hyper-V customers. What I wonder is if this is the beginning of a shift in the hypervisor war to more of a management war?
